Adopt Your New Best Friend!

ADOPT A PET!

The goal of the Humane Society of Greater Miami’s adoption program is to find a loving, permanent home for each animal in our care. We have wonderful dogs and cats of all sizes, colors, breeds and personalities!

Adopting a pet is a big commitment! Are you ready to:

  • Keep and care for the pet for his or her entire life (which could last 15 years!)?
  • Take the pet with you each time you move to a new home?
  • Train the pet?
  • Make the pet a permanent family member?
  • Be financially responsible for the pet, in sickness and in health?

If you are certain that you are willing and able to devote yourself to providing a loving, permanent home for one of our furry friends, please visit our Soffer and Fine Adoption Center in North Miami Beach. Take your time to see all of the pets available for adoption and ask our staff any questions you may have about them. If you have found yourself completely in love with one of the pets, an adoption counselor will help connect you with the pet of your dreams. We highly recommend bringing in the whole family when adopting a new pet, including your four-legged. It’s always best to get everyone involved in making this very important decision!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

At the time of adoption you will be asked to provide:

  • Picture ID
  • If you are a renter, a copy of your lease/rent agreement and pet policy, including the name and address of the landlord, or written consent from your landlord if the pet policy is not included in the lease.
  • A collar and leash to take home your pet(if you are adopting a dog). Collars and leashes are available for purchase at our boutique or you may bring your own collar and leash with you.

MATCH-A-PET PROGRAM

If you do not find the pet you are looking for right away, please don’t worry! The Humane Society of Greater Miami has new pets available for adoption daily, so please check back with us often. True love is worth the wait and we would love to help you adopt your new best friend. We receive lots of beautiful, healthy dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens of all shapes, breeds and sizes but, if for some reason you do not find the pet you are looking for, please ask about our Match-A-Pet Program.

Our Match-A-Pet Program can help you find the perfect addition to your family. It is designed specifically for people willing to wait for a pet of a specific breed, age, size or weight.

Dogs and cats that are either purebred or in high demand because of their size, age or weight, and/or looks are put into the Match-A-Pet Program. These pets’ profiles are matched against each potential adopter’s application on file. The best matches are called in order according to the date the adopter’s application was approved.

If you are interested in being placed on the Match-A-Pet list, you must come to the shelter and fill out an Adoption Application. We also strongly encourage you to continue checking online, as well as continue to visit the Soffer and Fine Adoption Center while you are waiting.

The adoption fees for Match-A-Pet animals is: $195.00 for canines and $50.00 for felines.

SENIOR PETS

Thinking about adopting a senior pet? There are numerous reasons that make older pets a great option for families looking to adopt a pet:

  • Older pets are typically calmer than puppies and kittens, often content with a more relaxing day-to to-day routine.
  • The low-key, mellow nature of older pets makes them a great fit for households with children.
  • Senior pets are often already trained and may even be pros at performing basic commands.
  • Because of their relaxing lifestyle, senior pets don’t require the constant attention and exercise that comes with young pets.
  • Their size, energy level, and health status are already established so you know exactly what to expect with your new pet.
  • Story after story suggests that senior pets are especially grateful for their new home.

Please tell your friends, family and co-workers to adopt from a shelter. Many lives depend on it.
