Adopt Your New Best Friend!

If you are thinking about adopting a pet and enrich your life with a companion, come to the Soffer and Fine Adoption Center and make adoption your first option!

We have wonderful dogs and cats of all sizes, colors, breeds and personalities! There are numerous reasons that make older pets a great option for families looking to adopt a pet:

  • Older pets are typically calmer than puppies and kittens, often content with a more relaxing day-to to-day routine.
  • The low-key, mellow nature of older pets makes them a great fit for households with children.
  • Senior pets are often already trained and may even be pros at performing basic commands.
  • Because of their relaxing lifestyle, senior dogs they also don’t require the constant attention and exercise that comes with young pets.
  • Their size, energy level, and health status are already established so you know exactly what to expect with your new pet.
  • Story after story suggests that senior pets are especially grateful for their new home.

The goal of the Humane Society of Greater Miami’s adoption program is to find a loving, permanent home for each animal in our care. Adopting a pet is a big commitment! Are you ready to:

  • Keep and care for the pet for his or her entire life (which could last 15 years!)?
  • Take the pet with you each time you move to a new home?
  • Train the pet?
  • Make the pet a family member?
  • Be financially responsible for the pet, in sickness and in health?

If you are certain that you are willing and able to devote yourself to providing a loving, permanent home for one of our furry friends, please visit the Soffer and Fine Adoption Center in North Miami Beach. Take your time and visit with several of our pets. If you have found yourself completely in love with one of the pets, an adoption counselor will help you complete an adoption application. We highly recommend bringing in the whole family when adopting a new pet; it’s always best to get everyone involved in making this very important decision!

At the time of adoption you will be asked to provide:

  • Picture ID
  • If you are a renter, a copy of your lease including the name and address of the landlord, or written consent from your landlord if the pet policy is not included in the lease.
  • A collar and leash to take home your pet(if you are adopting a dog). You can buy them at our boutique or bring your own collar and leash with you.

The Match-A-Pet Program at the Humane Society of Greater Miami can help find the perfect addition to your family. It is designed specifically for people willing to wait for a specific breed, or a pet of a specific age, size, or weight.

Dogs and cats that are either purebred or in high demand because of their size, age or weight, and/or looks are put into the Match-A-Pet Program. These pets’ profiles are matched against each potential adopter’s application on file. The best matches are called in order according to the date the adopter’s application was approved.

If you are interested in being in the Match-A-Pet Program you must come to the shelter and fill out an Adoption Application. We strongly encourage you to continue checking online, as well as, continue to visit the Soffer and Fine Adoption Center while you are waiting on the Match-A-Pet Program; we often find that an adopter will fall in love with a four-legged companion that was not similar to what they had requested on the Match-A-Pet application.

The adoption fee for a canine in the Match-A-Pet program is $195.00 and felines are $50.00.

Please tell your friends, family and co-workers to adopt from a shelter. Many lives depend on it.
