Brownies
PAWS for Cats & Dogs – Pets Badge Discover how to be a responsible pet guardian through hands-on games, activities, shelter tour and dog and cat playtime. Completes all Pets Badge requirements. Scouts receive the Pets Badge + a PAWS Fun Patch. 1.5–2 hrs
Donation Drive Champions Plan and run a small pet supply donation drive Badge: Celebrating Community | Fun Patch: Donation Drive Champion. The girls can drop off the donations and have a shelter tour. No charge
Juniors
Adoption Advocates Learn the importance of adoption and responsible pet ownership. Create “Adopt Me” posters or write stories for adoptable pets. 2 hrs | Fun Patch: Adoption Advocate
Cadettes
Heroic Animal Helpers – Animal Helpers Badge Explore the connection between humans and animals through engaging activities and games. Completes all Animal Helpers Badge requirements. Scouts receive the Animal Helpers Badge + a PAWS Fun Patch. 2–3 hrs
Community Educators – Spay & Neuter Awareness Learn about animal overpopulation and why spay/neuter is critical. Create short presentations to share with younger scouts. Shelter tour and cat and dog playtime. 2 hrs | Fun Patch: Pet Population Protector.
Seniors Animal Care & Community Leadership
Learn about animal welfare careers, practice leadership through adoption counselor role-play, and reflect on how animals build courage, confidence, and character.

Ambassador Animal Welfare Advocates
Community Project Design and lead a project to educate others on adoption or responsible pet care. Options include campaigns, events, or awareness projects.

Silver and Gold Projects
We are proud to support Girl Scouts as they work toward their Silver and Gold Awards. Our team has collaborated with scouts on projects such as: Creating enrichment toys for shelter pets or hosting donation drives for shelter supplies.
We are always excited to hear your ideas and help you bring your project to life. If your troop or individual scouts are interested in working on a Silver or Gold project, please reach out to our Humane Education Team.

Boy Scouts $15 per scout

Animal Science Merit Badge
Scouts will have a guided tour and learn about rescue animals and the importance of
adoption. The workshop includes a presentation about Cat & Dog Body
Time: 1.5- 2 hours

Pet Care Merit Badge
Scouts will experience a shelter tour, followed by an engaging activity on pet responsibility,
and enjoy some fun cat and dog playtime.

Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge
Scouts will explore the shelter, meet shelter team, learn about the different career
opportunities in animal welfare and learn about the adoption process. Finally end with cat
and dog activities.

Public Health Merit Badge
In this activity, participants will learn how the shelter maintains sanitary conditions to
prevent the spread of diseases among animals. They will meet with the shelter team, take a
guided shelter tour, and enjoy animal activity time. Additionally, participants will help clean
and disinfect kennels, cages, and play areas, supporting the shelter’s health and hygiene
standards.

First Aid Merit Badge
In this activity, participants will take a shelter tour and enjoy animal activity time while
working with shelter staff to learn about common injuries and illnesses in shelter animals
and how first aid is administered. They will also assist in preparing a first aid kit, ensuring it
contains essential items for animals in need, supporting the shelter’s ongoing care efforts.

Entrepreneurship Merit Badge (No fee)
Scouts can develop and implement a fundraising event to support the Humane Society of
Greater Miami. They can choose to organize an Adoption Day Event, create a Pup Troop
for the annual animal walk, or lead a Donation Drive Event to gather supplies for the
shelter. This hands-on experience teaches leadership, event planning, and the importance
of supporting animal welfare.
