Humane Education & Youth Program

Teaching children respect & kindness for all living creatures.

The Humane Society of Greater Miami believes that the building of a more kind, just, and loving community for the pets and people of Miami-Dade County begins with instilling the values of kindness and compassion. At public and private schools, scouting troops, special needs groups, local libraries, various community youth organizations as well as adult organizations, the Humane Society of Greater Miami teaches the young and old appropriate lessons about kindness to animals, empathy, responsible pet care and the causes and results of pet overpopulation. If you would like to request a humane education speaker to visit your child’s classroom or scout troop, please follow the instructions at the bottom of this page.

MEET YOUR EDUCATORS!

Walter Aguilera-Valdes

Walter grew up in Miami and attended FSU for his Bachelor’s in Literature and Master’s in Education. Upon finishing Graduate school, he began to work abroad; from Peru in South America, to Saudi Arabia and China in Asia, Walter has been a Teacher, Director of Studies, and Adjunct Lecturer in three different continents. He now joins us as our new Youth & Education Program Coordinator and is very, very excited to make an impact with his passion and warmth. Walter’s inspiration to work with humane education & animals undoubtedly stems from his love and admiration of his sister Indy, who is an avid shelter volunteer and profound animal lover. As for his hobbies, Walter enjoys traveling, consuming fiction, playing board games, skydiving, and scuba diving.

James has been invited to present throughout the U.S. and other countries as well, including Norway, Canada, Australia, and Argentina.
