Adopting a pet is a big commitment! Are you ready to:
- Keep and care for the pet for his or her entire life?
- Take the pet with you each time you move to a new home?
- Train the pet?
- Make the pet a permanent family member?
- Be financially responsible for the pet, in sickness and in health?
If you are certain that you are willing and able to devote yourself to providing a loving, permanent home for one of our furry friends, please take a look at our available pets to start your pet adoption journey! Take your time to see all of the pets available for adoption and click on their photos to learn more about them. You may ask our staff any question you may have by calling 305-696-0800. If you have found yourself completely in love with one of the pets, fill out an adoption application and an adoption counselor will help connect you with the pet of your dreams. We highly recommend making the whole family a part of the decision making process, including bringing your current dog, if you have one, to the meet-and-greet appointment. It’s always best to get everyone involved in making this very important decision!
Adoption appointments are suggested, but walk-ins are accepted on a space-available basis. If interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application and a member of our Community Support Team will contact you with approval and next steps!
Monday: Closed
Tuesday through Sunday: 12:00pm until 7:00pm
- Please check each animal’s profile for available appointment date. If no date is listed, the animal is available for appointments immediately.
- An adoption counselor will contact you to discuss your application and the animal you are interested in adopting.
- If approved, you will then make an appointment to come to the shelter.
- Approved applications are valid for 6 months from date of approval.

Please note, only applications received through the direct link on our website are reviewed by us. Applications through PetTango or PetFinder are not valid.
If you have previously submitted an application for a pet that has already been adopted and are interested in a new pet, please email adoption.application@humanesocietymiami.org.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
At the time of adoption you will be asked to provide:
- Picture ID.
- If you are a renter or own and are part of a Homeowner’s Association, a copy of your lease/rent agreement and/or pet policy, including the name and address of the landlord, or written consent from your landlord if the pet policy is not included in the lease.
- A collar and leash to take home your pet (if you are adopting a dog); a cat carrier (if you are adopting a cat). Collars, leashes and carriers are available for purchase at our boutique, or you may bring your own with you.
- Arrive at your scheduled appointment time to complete your adoption.
Ask our adoption counselors about Heartworm prevention!
Heartworm disease can be prevented in dogs by giving them medication once a month, which also controls various internal and external parasites. Heartworm infections are diagnosed in about 250,000 dogs each year. All of our shelter pets are heartworm tested and receive preventative medication. We strongly recommend purchasing heartworm prevention at the time of adoption to ensure your pet remains healthy. We offer packages of 6-month and 12-month doses, as well as single doses of heartworm prevention at competitive prices.

OUR SERVICES
ANIMAL ADOPTION
The Humane Society of Greater Miami is dedicated to placing every dog and cat in our care into a loving home. We are an adoption guarantee shelter, meaning that every animal that is admitted into our shelter is free from the threat of euthanasia due to time, space or treatable medical issues.
PREVENTATIVE CLINIC
We offer a low-cost, spay and neuter and preventive health care clinic in North Miami Beach to serve the pets of South Florida. Preventative care includes: Vaccinations, Preventative Tests, Prevention Medication, and Purchasing County Tags. Humane Euthanasia is offered at the discretion of the clinic manager and/or attending doctor.
HUMANE EDUCATION
At public and private schools, scouting troops, special needs groups, local libraries, various community youth organizations as well as adult organizations, the Humane Society of Greater Miami teaches the young and old appropriate lessons about kindness to animals, empathy, responsible pet care and the causes and results of pet overpopulation.
SPAY/NEUTER SURGERY
Low Cost Spay/Neuter Surgery (image attached) A spayed or neutered pet will live a longer, healthier, happier life and will not add to the pet overpopulation problem we are experiencing in Miami-Dade.
