Kind Ideas for "Kind Kids"
How YOU can help homeless animals!

BE A RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER: Show others how to be a responsible pet owner by being one yourself. Spay or neuter your pets and keep an identification tag on them at all times.

ORGANIZE A FUNDRAISER: Donate the proceeds of a bake sale, dog wash, book sale or carnival to the Humane Society of Greater Miami/Adopt-A-Pet. The Humane Society will provide general information to distribute to students and the public.

FORM A CLUB: Organize an animal club that meets weekly. Discuss animal-related topics, go on field trips to local shelters and develop community service projects. If you would like help forming your club and need ideas, call the Humane Society's Humane Education Department at 305-749-1820!

ORGANIZE AN ANIMAL AWARENESS WEEK: An animal awareness week in a school, or with the entire community, will encourage animal lovers to spread the word about the importance of being kind to all living things. Be Kind To Animals Week is held the first week of May. This will be a great time to get your school involved in animal awareness.

KEEP UP TO DATE: Read lots of books about animals. It will keep you knowledgeable and accurate. The library has lots of fantastic books about animals!!

SPONSOR A SPEAKER: Have the Humane Society come to speak at your school. Host the event in the evening, sell tickets and donate the proceeds to the Humane Society.

BE A HUMANE EDUCATOR: Give out correct information about animals and encourage people to become more responsible. Check libraries and the internet for information about pets. The more you know, the more you can share.

BE CREATIVE: Perform a play, design a poster, create an animal bulletin board, make a quilt, write a newsletter, or write a song about animals. Express your appreciation and love for animals by displaying your work at the Humane Society.

WRITE LETTERS: If you feel strongly about an issue or an event affecting animals, write letters to lawmakers and the media expressing your concerns about animals and the environment. You might write about the importance of spaying and neutering or why people should adopt their pet from the Humane Society.

ORGANIZE A DRIVE: Organize a toy, towel, or animal food drive in your community. Put a marked container in a busy area for people to see. Give the collected items to the Humane Society (See our wish list for a complete list of our animals' needs).
