  • Miami, FL — Mega Match-A-Thon was a non-stop, amazing, animal adoption event that ran for 24 straight hours. There were hundreds of dogs and cats to adopt from the Humane Society of Greater Miami, Miami-Dade Animal Services and The Cat Network, Inc. There was an impressive turn out of people lining up at midnight to be the first ones in to adopt a puppy or kitten. More than 4,000 people, including families with children and their pets, visited the event. The great news is that more than 288 animals were adopted and given forever homes at this first-of-its-kind event. Miami was one of 55 communities nationwide to receive grant funding to participate in this ASPCA “Mega Match-a-thon” event. The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) grants nearly $500,000 to support large-scale adoption events like this. Imagine how many animals living in shelters were rescued that day. It’s both mind boggling and a reason to feel good.

This event was not just for the animals. Adults, children and families were encouraged to attend and they enjoyed food and refreshments, a fun entertaining program, children activities, DJ’s and live bands performing on stage. Among the many names supporting the event were: Food Trucks Invasion, Avenida Zero Band, Robbie Elias and the Revenge Band, Roky Sofi Band, DJ Uneeq, National Pet Chamber of Commerce, Commissioner Heyman’s Coffee Truck and many, many more. Art Studio Miami and Radio Disney provided great entertainment for the young ones, while  Subaru of Miami, Yester Year Classic Car Club and Gables MotorSports showcased a variety of vehicles for all cars and motorcycle lovers.

“The ASPCA Mega Match-A-Thon was a great success. Finding homes for that many animals in one 24 hour period is amazing,” said Donna Tallon, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Greater Miami.  “Working together with Miami-Dade Animal Services and The Cat Network in the future, we can save thousands of animals and enrich the lives of new, adopting families.”
